Awareness Workshop on Private Sector on EIF Process, Trade Development Assistance Implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in Yangon
The Ministry of Economy and Trade is implementing the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Development Assistance (EIF) process. Awareness Workshop on the EIF process was held in Yangon in 2014. The opening ceremony of the workshop was attended by members of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), members of the National Steering Committee (NNSC); Myanmar Rice Association; Myanmar Fisheries Federation Myanmar Livestock Federation; In addition to central executive representatives from the Myanmar Tourism Federation and the Myanmar Computer Association, representatives from about 40 other private organizations; Representatives from trade-related government departments and organizations attended.
In addition, development partners such as the European Union (EU), which is acting as a Donor Facilitator in Myanmar's EIF process; Experts from the World Bank, which will mainly implement the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) under Myanmar's EIF process as the Main Implementing Entity (MIE), also attended.
Representatives from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and the European Union (EU), the EIF Process Facilitator of Myanmar, also addressed the opening ceremony of the Awareness Workshop on Private Sector EIF in Yangon. In the afternoon, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce; Senior officials from the Directorate of Trade; Experts from the European Union (EU) and the World Bank discussed the relevant issues and asked questions from the participants. The World Trade Organization (WTO) has officially recognized Myanmar as a beneficiary of the EIF since April 2013, and an introductory workshop on the program was held at the Union Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw from 31 July to 1 August 2013 with the assistance of UNDP. Pre-Diagnostic Trade Integrated Study (Pre-DTIS Phase) under the EIF process; Comprehensive Trade Development Study (DTIS Phase); There are four phases: Tier 1 Phase Implementation and Tier 2 Phase 2.
The first of these four steps, the Pre-DTIS phase, has been systematically implemented by the Ministry of Commerce since August 2013 after the initial introductory workshop. A seminar on the formation of the National Steering Committee (NSC) and a step forward in the EIF process, one of the key action plans at the Pre-DTIS level, was held at Hotel Shwe Pyi Taw in Nay Pyi Taw from 20 to 21 May 2014.
In addition, as part of the Pre-DTIS process under the EIF process, 2014 in Vientiane A Myanmar delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry attended the Myanmar-Lao Exchange Program held from 23 to 25 June. The study tour provided an opportunity to learn about Laos' EIF experience and practices and to make arrangements that are relevant to the country.
Awareness Workshops were held in Yangon and Mandalay at the Pre-DTIS level under the EIF process, and plans were made to implement the EIF process with input from private entrepreneurs.
